Building an Internal Mentoring Platform at Work.Life
Dalila Turetta · Work.Life
What they built
- An internal mentoring platform called mentorship.life for Work.Life employees
- A website with:
- A public-facing homepage explaining the programme and its connection to company values
- A mentor application form (name, skills to share - both hard and soft skills)
- A mentee application form (name, learning goals, time availability, confidence level, preferred mentor selection)
- An admin dashboard for the People team to review, approve, and match mentor–mentee pairs
- A session journal visible to both participants and the People team
- An end-of-programme scoring system so both parties rate each other, enabling programme success tracking
Why they built it
- Quarterly engagement surveys consistently surfaced a strong employee desire to learn from colleagues
- A small two-person HR team couldn't deliver training at scale
- Managers reported wanting structured time to learn skills their colleagues already had
- Goal: give every employee access to peer knowledge without creating a heavy HR-administered process
Tools used
- Claude - used to design and prototype the platform as an artifact (including all forms and logic) before going live
- Lovable - used to turn the Claude-generated code into a live website and make detailed UI refinements
- Slack - referenced as an integration consideration during the build process
How you could build this yourself
- Validate the need - run an engagement survey or pulse check asking employees how they prefer to learn and what skills they wish they had access to internally
- Gather qualitative input - speak to managers and team leads; ask "what would you want to learn, and from whom?"
- Design on paper first - sketch the user journey for both mentor and mentee before touching any tools; define what data you need to capture at each step
- Decide your matching model - choose whether matching will be algorithmic or human-reviewed; Work.Life kept a human (the People team) in the loop for all approvals and pairings
- Build the prototype in Claude - prompt Claude to create an artifact replicating your paper design: homepage, mentor form, mentee form, and admin view; iterate until the logic and layout match your vision
- Export to Lovable - paste the Claude-generated code into Lovable to make it a live, hosted website; use Lovable for fine-grained visual tweaks and any integrations (e.g. Slack notifications)
- Pilot internally - test with a small group (e.g. just the People team) to validate that forms, matching, journals, and scoring all work end-to-end
- Launch at an all-hands - present the platform company-wide with a clear explanation of the value for both mentors and mentees
- Collect feedback immediately - message participants after their first session; use early input to iterate quickly
- Track success - use the end-of-programme scores and journal data to measure impact over time and report back to the business
